H.E. Ibok-Ete Ibas (Amb.) was appointed as Ambassador of Nigeria to Ghana after a meritorious career in the Nigerian Military and has track record of accomplishment as the Chief of Naval Staff. He was born in Nko Cross River State, Nigeria and is a graduate of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and has attended other notable Institutions both home and abroad. He joined the Military service on the 20th of July, 1979 after completing his tertiary education at Hope Waddell Training Institute, Calabar between January 1971 and June 1976.

 

Prior to his appointment, Ambassador Ibas served as Chief of Naval Staff in the Nigerian Navy. He joined the Nigerian Military in 1979 and was commissioned as an officer in 1983.He subsequently attended the Sub Technical course in Cochin, India and he had close to four and a half years unbroken career in the Navy and attained the rank of Vice Admiral in 2015, before his retirement in January 2021.

 

Over the course of his military career, Amb. Ibas attended several courses including the Sub Lt Technical Course, Cochin India; Amphibious Warfare School of the US Marine Corps University in the United States and the National Defence Course in National Defence University, Islamabad in Pakistan.

He is also a fellow and member of several professional bodies including the Certified Institute of Shipping, Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), International Institute of Professional Security and US Naval Institute. He was also highly decorated and received several awards over the period.

Ambassador Ibas is widely traveled, he enjoys reading, watching documentaries and playing golf.

He is happily married to Barr. Mrs. Theresa Ibas and they are blessed with Children.
